Harmony of Music Transform Our Mood
The recreation medium 'music' is used as a therapeutic tool which benefits us for physical, emotional, cognitive needs of different persons. Benefits and impacts of music therapy vary from person to person as different persons have different choices of music for having different psychological or emotional characteristics. That's why they may respond differently to music therapy based on their personal preference or experience or choice.
The purpose of the topic that I have chosen
for blog writing is to provide information and express our experience about
music therapy. I always find positive effects from it. When I was in class 9-10
I was in fear of mathematics. By hearing my favorite music I was able to
concentrate on this subject. Also I could solve the mathematical problems
easily. This practice helps me to prevent the fear of mathematics along with
recovering my mental health. However I have a great connection with music
therapy so I can realize it's real benefits.
Music therapy is a psychological treatment by
professional and experienced persons for turning one's mood into better. One of
the best remedies for stress is music. Music is connected to moods and
individuals feel a variety of emotions from happy, calm, energetic or relaxed
because music has a different ability to change our mood. This is called the
therapeutic ability of music.
Music works as a therapy for all of us to
change our mood. Various indigenous occasions and ceremonies are held with
music to make the moment more enjoyable. When we attend an occasion we feel
very cheerful by hearing music. It is a culture for people of different
religions to perform their rituals with music along with enjoying their happy
or sad moment. I enjoyed a music occasion in Khagrachari where the tribe
performed their local song. These songs mesmerized me and made me happy.
Music therapists work with music to develop
the relationship between the clients and difficulties of their physical or
mental health. They make their own clients interactive by creating music,
playing instruments or lyrics analyzing for the achievement of therapeutic
goals. The variation of their work depends on the client's needs such as what
conditions are they suffering. Some professional skills should be required for
a music therapist such as counseling techniques with music, communication
skills with psychological experience, knowledge about musical instruments and
ability to create own rhythms.
From "Henry's story" in the
documentary "Alive inside", Henry the senior citizen who was with dementia appears apathetic and
disconnected from his surroundings. But he had a profound transformation when
he was introduced with personalized music therapy utilizing songs from his
childhood. He became lively, began to sing and showed emotions that he had been suppressing for years. He
had been able to reconnect with his memories and emotions with the help of
music therapy and it enhanced his well being.
Incorporating music therapy is a wonderful way
of relaxation. When it is at home one can follow some ways to use music as a
therapeutic tool. The ways can be:
1.Imagine situations while listening to music: one
can visualize his/her own scenarios while listening to music. It also gives
refreshment and good vibes.
2.Making it productive: one can use music to
boost motivation. It seriously helps a lot.
3.Mindful listening: focusing on the melody
and rhythms and trying to relate with the lyrics. For these, sitting or laying
in a quiet place is mandatory.
4.Use music as a medium of expression: We can
express our emotions by using music as a medium. Playing instruments, singing
or dancing can be the medium.
5.Creating playlists of own choice: choices of
songs vary from person to person. A particular song can be relatable to someone
but another one may not find it relatable. So creating a personal playlist with
the songs that resonate our own emotions, memories and moods can be very
useful.
